Nitrox Course
Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) is the lastest
tool in our efforts to stay underwater. Especially in the
60 to 100 foot range, EANx gives you more of what you are
looking for - time underwater. Enriched Air does this by replacing
some of the nitrogen in the air with oxygen. This means you
absorb less nitrogen during the dive, which gives you longer
no decompression limits.
Like any technology, EANx has some concerns
you have to deal with. The higher oxygen content poses some
potential issues that you don't have when diving with air,
but they are not hard to manage. That's why you are taking
this course.
The Enriched Air Diver course consists of
knowledge developement, practical application and open water
dives. You will cover much of the knowledge developement independently
by watching the EANx video and by reading the EANx manual.
You will find two (2) Knowledge Reviews, one at the end of
each chapter, which will fill out and turn in to your Instructor.
You will review what you learned with your Instructor, giving
you a chance to ask questions. After completing the EANx Exam,
you will be ready for the practical application of planning
a dive using EANx, analyzing enriched air, obtaining enriched
air from an enriched air fill station and assuring that your
EANx cylinders have the proper marking. You will make at least
two (2) enriched air nitrox dives as part of the course under
the direction of your Instructor. These dives allow you to
learn and apply the accepted procedures for diving on enriched
air. When you have seccessfully completed the program, you
will have earned the PADI Enriched Air Diver Certification.
