Just what you've been looking for in your search to find the right destination and dive resort to take your dive group to next. A family owned and operated dive resort. In our experience, that personal, hands-on touch just can't be beat. If you've yet to dive Bligh Waters, you are in for the best diving in Fiji. If you have dived Bligh, you know what I'm talking about. To get the best diving in Fiji without the hassle of taking a small plane to one of the outer islands is a godsend. Bligh Straits is a 2 hour ride north from Nadi Airport on the main island of Viti Levu.
During our first trip to Volivoli Beach Resort, we discovered the diving to be the best we've dived anywhere else in Fiji in some time. The resort staff and the in-house dive operation which you may be familiar with - Ra Divers - were incredible. It has been awhile since we've had the pleasure of staying in a family-owned and operated dedicated dive resort who also own the dive operation. It isn't that easy any more to find an affordable, family-owned and operated dedicated dive resort in Fiji.. The Darling Family (owners) treated us like one of their own as soon as our group was met in Nadi by brothers Steve and Nick. We descended upon Volivoli Beach Resort with 22 divers to be greeted there by Dad and Mom Darling (Steve Sr. and Gail). We were their first dive group to stay and dive with them since expanding Ra Divers into a full service dive resort (2009).The Darlings, who also own their own construction company, were just finishing construction on the last Villa as we were driving into the driveway. Those Villas (Vales in Fijian, meaning "modern Fijian house) are jaw-dropping gorgeous.
Recently completed, is the hotel wing with Deluxe twin share rooms, each with its own terrace, two queen beds, duel sinks, two of everything in the room so roommates each enjoy the same comfort and amenities. No more flipping the coin to see who has to sleep on the smaller bed! And...these rooms have WiFi access! The Villas will be getting WiFi shortly. You can always head to the restaurant area for WiFi access or to use one of the resort's computer terminals set up for guest use. Ra Divers can service 34 divers now that they have two, large, very rooming dive boats to whisk us out to Vatu-I-Ra Passage for the most beautiful diving in the world.
The 10 private Villas and the 9 Hotel wing Deluxe Rooms are fully air-conditioned with spectacular ocean views.
Coming soon: Ocean view Spa/Massage Hut, Reception and Gift Shop Building, Expanded kitchen facilities, WiFi extended to the Villas and a NITROX System ready for use very soon! On the drawing boards is the completion of the helicopter pad to be used for private plane arrivals and more importantly, air evacuation should a diver need the use of the Chamber in Suva which is a 4 hour ride by vehicle from the resort. By helicopter, the diver can be at the Chamber in 15 minutes. The mangroves in front of the resort are well maintained and VBR will have elevated walkways at some point where you'll be able to take a guided tour to learn what mangroves are and how they are essential in sustaining fish life. If you are lucky, you'll be at the resort when the fish are raising there babies in the mangrove fish nursery!
